Lorenzo Insigne admits it was “wonderful” to score his debut Champions League goal against Borussia Dortmund.
The Napoli-born talent curled a magnificent free kick in off the underside of the bar to secure a 2-1 victory.
“It was wonderful to score my first Champions League goal at the San Paolo against a great side,” Insigne told Sky Sport Italia.
“I am happy to have scored a good goal, but above all for this win so we go into the game with Milan fired up.”
Insigne had not originally been expected to start, as even a few minutes before the line-ups were announced Goran Pandev was the favourite.
“We are all ready to the last minute, as the Coach makes the decisions and even if Pandev had played in my place I’m sure he would’ve done well too.”
Insigne was regularly benched by Walter Mazzarri last season, who said he was ‘not ready,’ but he is becoming a key figure for Napoli and Italy.
“I feel more faith from the Coach compared to Mazzarri. I am in good shape physically and the wide forwards have to help out in defence, which we are all happy to do.”
