Alessandro Del Piero's agent reveals how the Juventus captain forged his confidence, character and controversial physique.
“In his first years as a professional, I often told Del Piero to repeat to himself, even when he was shaving in the mirror, that he was a striker,” said agent Claudio Pasqualin.
“I also urged him to convince himself that his characteristics made him a better striker and to disobey the tacticians, for example Arrigo Sacchi, who wanted to send him deeper.”
Del Piero also had controversy in his career when he suddenly became far more muscular than in his early years.
It prompted Zdenek Zeman to make accusations, sparking a long investigation and court case into the use of legal substances like creatine.
“There was so much controversy on Del Piero's early years and the evolution of his physique, but in reality the only thing behind it was the desire of the player to do extra gym work and improve his body,” insisted Pasqualin.
