Milan’s Mario Balotelli could be omitted from the next Italy squad as further punishment for his three-match ban.
The striker’s post-game dismissal against Napoli on Sunday, where he argued with match officials, was a breach of the national side’s code of ethics.
Boss Cesare Prandelli has opted to discipline players for misdemeanours – ranging from players dismissed for violent gestures to those who behave questionably – by not selecting them in the squad.
However, it is unclear whether Balotelli will be selected or not seeing as his three-match ban is set to expire on October 6 – the day before the Italy squad are next set to meet up.
The Azzurri will face Denmark in Copenhagen on October 11 and Armenia in Naples on October 15.
Although the games are World Cup qualifiers, they are insignificant to the Italians seeing as they have already won their group.
