Walter Mazzarri complained Inter had “not even 72 hours” to prepare for their game with Cagliari. “It’s all up in the air.”
The Nerazzurri surged into joint second place on Thursday evening with a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina, but have to play in Trieste on Sunday at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT). Click here for a match preview.
“If I say what I think, then people will claim I’m looking for excuses. I would just like in general for people to notice these things, because I didn’t even have 72 hours to prepare for this game,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
“It mustn’t happen again. Fiorentina played at the same time we did and they’re going to play on Monday evening. Cagliari played on Wednesday and then on Sunday, but Inter had less time than anyone else to recover.
“How will I balance the consistency of our performances with having to rotate the squad tomorrow? It’s a good question, one that I cannot answer.
“If usually journalists try to figure out what kind of line-up I’ll use, they will have trouble this weekend, as it’s all up in the air. I still need to evaluate everything until tomorrow morning.
“I want to make the right changes, some of which are necessary. Jonathan is tired, Esteban Cambiasso ended the Fiorentina game absolutely exhausted, while Rodrigo Palacio and Ricky Alvarez are also fatigued.
“I have to evaluate the players who can give me the most guarantees as well as drumming the tactical organisation into those who haven’t played as much. There are some who need to understand things a little better.
“This game is difficult for all these reasons and I haven’t even got to mentioning our opponents yet. Cagliari have a good Coach, some players of a very high level and if we’re not careful then this can be the classic banana skin during a moment of euphoria. So far, this match is giving me very bad sensations.”
Inter’s confidence is sky high after notching up 13 points in the opening five rounds.
“When a journey begins, I try to give all of myself. We’ll play our cards, without holding back or making calculations. I always said that from the first day, as I wanted to revitalise all the players who were here.”
