Vincenzo Montella has injury doubts over David Pizarro, comments on Daniele De Rossi's Italy snub and prepares for Roma's trip to Fiorentina.
Julio Sergio and Marco Cassetti are left out of the squad for tomorrow's game, while Pizarro did not take part in today's training session.
“He will require a fitness test. Matteo Brighi could replace him, but I don't want to give our opponents any tactical advantages, so I prefer to wait,” said the Coach.
“It'll be the most important match since I took charge of Roma, even more so than the derby. We went into the Lazio game with the right motivation after the Champions League defeat, while now it is harder to find the same psychological push. It means I must be good at creating it.”
Claudio Ranieri often rotated the squad, particularly his forwards, and Montella has shown signs of following the same process.
“In terms of their characteristics, Marco Borriello and Francesco Totti can play together, because Totti is a second striker.
“However, the rest of the side requires different characteristics in its attack.”
De Rossi will start in midfield, but is dropped by the Italy squad after breaking their ‘code of ethics' with his three-match UEFA ban for elbowing a Shakhtar Donetsk player.
“I spoke to him and he said that physically he's not in great shape. Selfishly speaking, I am happier if he doesn't go on international duty, as that way he has time to recover.”
Roma squad: Lobont, Doni, Pena; Castellini, Juan, Mexes, Riise, Guillermo Burdisso, Nicolas Burdisso, Rosi; Pizarro, Taddei, De Rossi, Perrotta, Greco, Simplicio, Brighi, Pettinari, Menez; Totti, Borriello
