Kevin Strootman won’t play for the Netherlands tonight through injury, but will reportedly be recovered for Roma in time to face Napoli on Friday.
The midfielder picked up an ankle knock playing for the Dutch last Friday against Hungary and, whilst it was believed only minor, his Coach Louis van Gaal has indicated he is unlikely to be passed fit for Tuesday evening’s game with Turkey.
It has raised doubts over the 23-year-old’s availability for this Friday’s League encounter between Roma and Napoli, but reports are split.
Whilst the recovery period is seen as too short to allow the player to make the starting line-up, the Gazzetta dello Sport are one of a few outlets reporting that medical staff at Trigoria are ‘optimistic’ as they prepare to put Strootman through a number of tests upon his return.
Miralem Pjanic is similarly facing a late fitness battle to make Week 8’s clash between the top two, suffering with knee pain.
