Matias Silvestre made his Milan debut against Udinese and sees this as “a new beginning for me.”
The 29-year-old defender was given this chance with Philippe Mexes suspended, Daniele Bonera and Mattia De Sciglio injured.
“I am very happy for my debut, but above all for the team’s victory. I’ve very happy with this result,” he told Sky Sport Italia of the 1-0 win.
“Tonight we showed great character and this is the path we need to continue on. I had been out for a while and I have to thank the medical staff for helping me to recover so quickly. Perhaps because of that, I was a little more cautious than I usually am.”
Silvestre is on loan from Inter, who were forced to buy him outright from Palermo over the summer.
“Unfortunately last season I was unlucky, now I have this opportunity and am trying to make the most of the time I’m given on the field by the Coach.
“The season has just started and I hope to continue doing well so I can earn my place in the side.”
Mexes will be available on Tuesday in the Champions League against Barcelona, so Silvestre is likely to be on the bench.
“It will certainly be difficult against Barcelona. This evening we enjoy this victory, then from tomorrow we’ll start thinking about Barcelona.”
