“Did we ask for divine intervention? Of course not!” smiled President Luca Campedelli.
“This was a visit of courtesy and of faith. We think Our Lord has more important things to worry about...”
He visited the Vatican along with a delegation of 25 directors and collaborators, handing Pope Francis a personalised Chievo jersey.
“Union and community, as the Pope said, are fundamental values. Perhaps at times we struggle to put them into practice, but they are very important values for me and for Chievo.”
The Flying Donkeys are currently propping up the Serie A table and take on runaway leaders Roma.
“How do we get out of this difficult situation? I go back to the words of Pope Francis, as the only path is to stick together, help each other out and continue to work together until the end. Never give up.
“As for tactical considerations, those are down to the Coach. As far as I am concerned, I wouldn’t complain if we put up barricades against Roma, though I doubt those would be enough. I just hope this game can be a turning point for us.”
