Roma get Serie A's first ever Perfect 10, German Denis punishes Inter again and Napoli continue their purple patch as Susy Campanale rounds up the Week 10 stats.
Roma are the first team in history to win the opening 10 Serie A games of the season. In European Leagues they can still target Tottenham’s run of 11 in 1960-61, Ajax with 12 in 1995-96 and Benfica’s 23 wins in 1972-73.
Marco Borriello’s last Serie A goal for the Giallorossi was in a 3-1 home win over Sampdoria on May 22 2011. He came the club’s 11th different scorer this season. The Lupi netted 17 of their total 24 goals in the second half, while Parma’s Jonathan Biabiany remains the only player to have scored against them before seven clean sheets.
Chievo had been unbeaten against Roma in three meetings, including two victories, without conceding. A run of six straight defeats is their worst since November 2008.
Napoli have beaten Fiorentina 51 times in Serie A, more than any other club. Since a 2-1 defeat in January 2009, they earned three wins and two draws at the Stadio Franchi. Dries Mertens got his first Serie A goal and confirmed the Partenopei have found the target in each of their last six visits to Florence.
Kaka had not scored in a Milan jersey since a 2-0 win away to Fiorentina on May 31 2009. It was also his sixth past Lazio, second only to Reggina as targets go on seven in his career. Michael Ciani marked his debut Serie A strike, having already scored for Lazio in the Coppa Italia against Siena in December 2012.
Lazio have not beaten Milan at San Siro in Serie A since Paolo Maldini’s own goal sealed a 1-0 result in September 1989, followed by 10 draws and 14 defeats. In those encounters, the Rossoneri scored 42 goals and conceded 19.
Andrea Pirlo scored his 23rd direct free kick in Serie A, moving ahead of Alessandro Del Piero. Now only Sinisa Mihajlovic stands between Pirlo and the all-time record of 28.
Since joining in 2011-12, Arturo Vidal has been the top scorer at Juventus with 28 goals in all competition. Leonardo Bonucci’s last Serie A strike was in a 2-0 win at Palermo in April 2012. Catania have lost all five away games this season, while Juve won 11 of their last 12 League ties in Turin.
Inter haven’t conquered Bergamo since a 2-0 result in April 2008, managing just three draws (all and two losses. The Nerazzurri have scored in each of their last 16 visits to Bergamo, last firing blanks in a 1-0 defeat in 1991-92. Home and away, the Orobici are unbeaten against Inter in five. Stefano Colantuono hasn’t lost against Inter since a 2-1 at San Siro on December 23 2006, followed by two wins and five draws.
In the last five encounters, Atalanta’s goals have all been scored by Giacomo Bonaventura (two) and German Denis (seven). The last Atalanta player other than these two to find the net against Inter was Simone Tiribocchi in April 2010. Denis has put six goals past Inter in the last three games.
Ricky Alvarez has put three of his 10 Serie A goals past Atalanta, but Inter are the favourite victims of Denis with seven. Atalanta have now netted 100 goals past Inter in the top flight, but this was their first draw of the season.
Hellas Verona had never previously started a top flight campaign with five consecutive home victories and are unbeaten at the Bentegodi in 11 official games.
Parma have not won away to Genoa since 1994, managing just two draws and four losses. Antonio Mirante confirmed his status as a penalty specialist, saving 12 in all competition, 10 in Serie A. The last spot-kick he kept out was exactly a year ago, denying Francesco Totti in Parma 3-2 Roma on October 31 2012. Alberto Gilardino still scored his 163rd Serie A goal.
Livorno have not beaten Torino at home in the top flight since a 2-0 result in 1933-34. The Amaranto halted a run of four consecutive defeats, while Torino went up to three points from five rounds. This was Livorno’s 100th Serie A home stalemate. Emerson broke his Serie A duck at the age of 33.
Simone Zaza has scored three of Sassuolo’s four goals from open play this term, but received his first Serie A red card. Zaza’s last dismissal was in Crotone-Ascoli in April 2013, Serie B. Udinese finally won on their travels after four straight losses.
Bologna’s last League victory in Sardinia was 1-0 in December 1998, followed by three draws and four defeats. The Rossoblu were without a single victory until last week, but have now notched up two on the bounce. It was Cagliari’s second consecutive defeat and a sad way to mark Andrea Cossu’s 200th Serie A appearance. The last team to conquer the Stadio Sant’Elia was Lecce, 2-1 in February 2012.
