Milan stopper Cristian Zapata has laughed at those who were questioning the form of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
“Messi – what crisis?” the stopper stated after the Argentine grabbed a brace in the 3-1 Champions League win last night.
“I'm not sure there was really that much difference between the teams,” the Colombian international centre-back added.
“We went out to win and we had opportunities to score, we just didn't convert.
“Despite all that we don't leave here happy. The match was there for the taking right until the closing stages, but the equaliser just wouldn't come our way.”
Milan boss Massimilano Allegri surprised with his team selection by benching star striker Mario Balotelli.
“When Balotelli came on I thought it was going to be a decisive change in our favour,” Zapata added. “He gave Barca’s defenders problems without actually putting the ball in the net.
“All we can do now is work because our options of staying in the competition remain alive.”
Second-placed Milan will face Ajax at home and Celtic away in their final two matches.
