FIGC President Giancarlo Abete sees tonight’s meeting with Germany as “a fake friendly” preparing for the World Cup.
This is their first encounter since Italy’s 2-1 victory in the Euro 2012 semi-final.
“We hope this is an intermediary step, as after the semi-final in Ukraine we’d also love to meet Germany in Brazil,” Abete told Sky Sport Italia.
“Tonight will be a significant test and it is essentially a fake friendly. We all remember Mario Balotelli’s brace against Germany at Euro 2012, two great goals and such strength. There is the possibility of another taste, because evidently Germany are attractive for Balotelli.
“Our objective is to achieve an optimal result at the World Cup. It will be a very complicated competition, as we’re not top seeds in the draw. We must keep our feet on the ground and I have a lot of faith in Cesare Prandelli’s leadership.”
