Giuseppe Rossi has big plans for 2014 and today’s trip to Roma. “Winning with Fiorentina and going to the World Cup are my dreams.”
The Viola visit the Stadio Olimpico at 11.30 GMT, click here for a Serie A match preview .
“I think Roma could cause problems for Juventus in the title race this season, as they have found their balance and Rudi Garcia provides different motivation,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.
“As for Fiorentina, we are only four points off the Champions League places and it’s no mystery that is one of our objectives. Would I prefer to win the Coppa Italia or Europa League? There’s no comparison, the Europa League.”
Rossi joined the Tuscans after two years out with a series of knee injuries, but has repaid them with 12 Serie A goals so far this season.
“Being Capocannoniere is not my priority, as first of all I want to do well for the team and do what Vincenzo Montella asks.
“I believe it is possible to win in Florence and we’ll do everything possible to achieve that. It would be fantastic for those who support from the stands, as the passion you can feel for this team is extraordinary.”
Rossi’s form has also brought him back into the Italy squad and he hopes to start in the 2014 World Cup, where they face Uruguay, England and Costa Rica.
“We knew it was going to be a tough group because of the seeding situation, but this must be further motivation to do well rather than an excuse for a bad start.”
The New Jersey-born forward was asked how Montella compared with Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli.
“They both have very clear ideas on football, know what they want from their teams and are able to get the right determination so everyone can give 110 per cent.
“I see the World Cup as a dream come true, the kind I’ve had since I was a child. The dark period of injury is behind me now and I don’t think about it anymore. I just want to play at 100 per cent hoping to be at my best for the World Cup too.
“I am confident, as we have a great squad and are all really good friends. The partnership with Mario Balotelli works on and off the field too, as we talk a lot, joke around and have the same taste in hip hop music.”
