Southampton have resumed their bid for Cagliari defender Davide Astori, but rejected Fiorentina’s offer for Gaston Ramirez.
The Saints have been tracking Astori for over a year now, but always faltered at the final hurdle when faced with the €15m transfer fee.
According to Tuttosport, the January window provides them with another opportunity to push for his signature.
Cagliari President Massimo Cellino caused shockwaves after the last game of 2013 when he announced every player was for sale at the right price.
Meanwhile, Southampton have also turned down Fiorentina’s proposal for midfielder Ramirez.
He had been heavily linked with a return to Serie A after leaving Bologna last term, but manager Mauricio Pochettino appears to have changed his mind on keeping the Uruguay international.
