Francesco Acerbi’s lawyer has reiterated that his client is not guilty of doping offences.
The former Milan, Genoa and Chievo man failed a doping test after the December 1 match against Cagliari due to elevated levels of the hormone hCG.
This hormone is often linked to tumours and further investigation found his cancer had indeed returned after a testicular tumour was removed in July.
The Disciplinary Commission suspended Acerbi via the usual procedure and today he presented his appeal to the TNA anti-doping commission.
And the player’s legal aide insists that an appeal has been made ‘to protect’ his client’s name.
“The appeal against the suspension has been proposed,” Francis Grassani told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We want to protect the image of the player, his personal dignity and respect the suffering he is currently experiencing.
“His name cannot be compared to that of other dopers. I hope for a positive outcome.”
