Napoli have communicated that Valon Behrami will seek further consultation before a decision is taken on undergoing surgery.
The midfielder has been struggling with a toe injury of late, which has caused confusion and uncertainty both on its extent and required treatment.
Whilst tests carried out in Germany yesterday apparently ruled out a fracture but pointed towards ligament damage and subsequent disagreement between parties on the best course of treatment, the player himself commented afterwards that ‘no-one has the full picture’ yet.
Further confusion has followed with the Italian media today picking up quotes from Behrami on the Swiss FA’s official website dated from Wednesday, which have the player saying he has opted to undergo surgery on the injury and will be out for six weeks.
However, Napoli have now released an official communication stating that the 28-year-old will: “in the coming days undergo further consultation with a specialist of international repute to determine whether an operation on his foot is necessary or not.”
