Walter Mazzarri insists Napoli are “fired up, but not tense” ahead of a potentially decisive clash with Lazio. “I couldn't care less about the Milan derby.”
The Vesuviani are still very much in the title race, trailing leaders Milan by just three points, but must also ensure Udinese and Lazio don't catch them in third.
“When there has been a lot of expectation, we haven't been able to put in great performances so far. I hope to see a Napoli that is fired up, but not tense,” said the Coach.
“We have to reach this game with the right state of mind. It won't be easy to overcome Lazio, especially as they have an excellent away record. We've got to move the ball around quickly to get past their defence.
“We can test our maturity in this match and it will be crucial for the remaining rounds of the campaign.”
Lazio boss Edy Reja took Napoli from Serie C1 to the top flight and returns to the San Paolo for the first time as an opponent.
“I am pleased to see someone who had such a profound effect that he is given the right tribute. It's an atmosphere that is good for football.
“The San Paolo has to bring a positive energy and not just pressure. We mustn't look at the table, as I don't take my eyes off the road. We'll see where we end up when it's all over.”
Napoli will play knowing the result of the Milan derby, so could leap into second place.
“I couldn't care less about the Milan derby,” insisted Mazzarri. “If we don't do our duty against Lazio, then any result at San Siro will be useless for us.
“It is one of the most fascinating Leagues in a long time. We've got eight Finals ahead of us and must be more mature and clinical. Napoli play wonderful football that isn't always finalised.”
