Jose Mourinho has indicated that Michael Essien is the only one to now decide on a proposed move to Milan.
The Chelsea midfielder’s representatives are reported to have reached agreement on an 18-month deal with the Rossoneri and were believed to have met with Mourinho today to put forward the proposal.
Whilst it remains unclear if Milan will buy Essien outright or pick him up on an initial loan through to the summer before exercising a purchase option, the player’s Coach has indicated Chelsea will not stand in the way.
“Essein is in the classic position where he can stay or go,” Mourinho has told reporters today.
“We would be more than happy for him to remain here with us. He is a great player who has given everything for Chelsea and he is an important person for us.
“If he were to go away, he would have a better chance to play in these months leading up to the World Cup.
“If he remains, he will play on Sunday against Stoke, but if there is an opportunity for him to go away and to be happier, then we will have to show respect for his choice and allow him to leave.”
