Roma have been linked with capitalising on Toby Alderweireld’s unhappiness at Atletico Madrid, but face a barrier to signing the defender.
The Belgian international has become the latest centre-back linked with a switch to the Giallorossi during this market, on from telling Dutch media that he is frustrated with a lack of playing time at Atleti.
However, where Roma are seen as after an immediate replacement for Genoa-bound Nicolas Burdisso, Alderweireld is seen as unavailable to anyone until the summer.
This is through FIFA regulations that prevent a player from representing more than two clubs during a calendar season.
The 24-year-old played briefly for Ajax at the start of this season, before completing his late summer move to Atletico.
