Arturo Vidal's Inter double, Sampdoria interrupt a red Derby della Lanterna streak and Napoli have an Atalanta taboo as Susy Campanale rounds up the stats.
Juventus have lost just one of their last eight Serie A meetings with Inter, a 3-1 result in Turin in November 2012 interrupting a run of five victories and two draws. However, in those eight encounters, the Bianconeri kept only three clean sheets.
Juve found the net for the 35th round on the trot, matching the club record set from April 1957 to April 1958. In their last 20 top flight home fixtures, the Bianconeri have emerged with 18 victories and two draws.
Arturo Vidal went up to 28 Serie A goals overall, 11 for the season setting a new personal best, three in the last two rounds. The Chilean also scored against Inter earlier this term, the first Juve player to do the Derby d’Italia double since Mauro Camoranesi in 2007-08. Stephan Lichtsteiner has scored 11 Serie A goals, two of them against Inter. Giorgio Chiellini marked his 400th game as a professional football player with his 23rd top flight goal, the second past the Nerazzurri.
Inter are still winless in 2014 with two draws from four outings in all competition. For the first time since November 2012-January 2013, the Biscione lost four Serie A away fixtures in a row. Rolando got his second Serie A goal after scoring against Verona in October.
The last time Roma had a game rained off at the Olimpico was against Sampdoria in October 2008. Parma also had a match abandoned in this stadium due to the weather, but that was against Lazio in April 2001.
Maxi Lopez got his third goal in six top flight meetings with Genoa and his second of the season after sealing Catania’s 1-0 win over Udinese on November 9. His last goal for the Blucerchiati was in a 3-1 loss at Cagliari in March 2013.
Sampdoria hadn’t won the Genoa Derby since a 3-1 on November 18 2012, followed by a draw and 3-0 loss. They hadn’t been victorious as the ‘away’ side since another 1-0 result on February 17 2008, followed by four defeats and a stalemate. All three of Samp’s most recent Derby della Lanterna goals were netted by South Americans.
This is the first Genoa ‘home’ derby without any red cards since April 30 1995. In the next nine editions between Serie A and B, there were 16 dismissals.
Napoli had been unbeaten in 11 games in all competition, including seven wins. Between Serie A and B, the Partenopei have won just once in their last 12 visits to Bergamo. Along with the 2-0 result in 2010, they lost six and drew five. Rafa Benitez’s men have lost three away games in Serie A this season, all of them without scoring at Roma, Juventus and Atalanta.
Atalanta have lost only one of their last 10 home matches between League and Coppa Italia, a 4-1 to Juventus interrupting seven victories and two stalemates. Clarence Seedorf continued his unbeaten League record, but failed to become the first Milan Coach since Luigi Bonizzoni in 1958-59 to win his opening three Serie A games. Adil Rami celebrated his debut Serie A strike and hadn’t found the net since October 15 2011, another 1-1 draw between Mallorca and Valencia. The French full-back is the 15th different Milan player to score this season. The Rossoneri have gone behind four times at San Siro this season, finishing up with two draws and two defeats from those situations.
The last Torino victory at San Siro was 1-0 in 1985, followed by six draws and 12 defeats. Toro haven’t beaten the Rossoneri for 13 years, amassing only four points from 12 meetings, home and away. The Granata have lost just one of the last 10 rounds, putting together six victories and three draws, but their run of three clean sheets was terminated. Ciro Immobile had already scored in this stadium for Genoa against Inter in December 2012 and took his career tally in Serie A to 16. He is responsible for six of Toro’s last 10 goals.
Fiorentina lost away to Cagliari for the second year running, as they fell 2-1 in March 2013, and haven’t won here since April 2011. The Sardinians had been without a win in six rounds, including three defeats, and this was their first home clean sheet of the campaign. Vincenzo Montella’s men were unbeaten in nine between Serie A and Cup competitions, amassing seven wins and two draws. Mauricio Pinilla has scored all four of Cagliari’s last goals against Fiorentina in the League.
Edy Reja is still unbeaten in Serie A since returning to the Lazio bench with 14 points from an available 18. After three consecutive stalemates, Davide Ballardini suffered his first defeat on the Bologna bench. The Rossoblu haven’t got the better of Udinese since 2010, earning just four draws from seven meetings, home and away. The Friulani got their first Serie A victory of 2014 after four straight defeats. Antonio Di Natale scored his 182nd top flight goal, while it was the third for Nico Lopez. Both the young Uruguayan’s goals this season have come away from home. Di Natale hadn’t netted on his travels in Serie A for three months, since October at Sassuolo. Simone Scuffet made his Serie A debut at the age of 17.
Catania extended their unbeaten run to two rounds, both draws, by breaking the goal drought after 325 minutes of football in all competition.
