Diego Simeone says that whilst he is happy at Atletico Madrid, he ‘cherishes’ his history with Inter and could one day return as Coach.
The 43-year-old is set to return to Italy next week with his La Liga outfit for the first leg of the Champions League Last 16 against Milan.
Whilst reflecting on the particular aspects to that tie and warning of the Rossoneri’s hidden strength, El Cholo was also asked if a potential win would hold double satisfaction for his past with Inter.
“No, it would be important for Atletico Madrid,” began Simeone to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Then, it is true that all the history we had together at Inter was beautiful. I cherish from great memories.
“But, it is especially important because we [Atleti] are facing a great club.
“Inter fans want me to return as Coach? I am happy, because I spent a wonderful time there, short but intense. Quality is better than quantity.
“Yet, today I am working very well here with Atletico Madrid. I imagine one day in the future, I could go there.”
Simeone was asked if he is still in contact with anyone from Inter.
“All the time I talk to Zanetti. They too are like Milan in a time of transition, with a great Coach that will surely be able to revive the team as competitive, as they have been in recent years.”
