Coach Gasperini was due to be in the stands, but his touchline ban for dissent was revoked on appeal and transformed into a €10,000 fine.
“Napoli are certainly an excellent squad with a fearsome strike force, but they do leave you spaces at the back. Those are the spaces we’ll need to make the most of,” he told Radio Club 91.
Genoa have impressed since Gasperini took over from Fabio Liverani and much of that success is down to Gilardino, who scored 11 Serie A goals in 23 games this season.
“In my view Gilardino has a good chance of going to the World Cup in Brazil. He is scoring regularly and putting in consistently good performances, thanks also to the support of his teammates.”
Gila was in the 2006 World Cup winning squad and at 31 years of age his last cap was in October 2013.
