Vincenzo Iaquinta reveals the wonderful volley was “an instinctive gesture” and accepts he was wrong about the penalty incident.
The Juventus striker scored a fantastic opening goal in last night's 1-1 draw with Roma.
“It wasn't easy, as the ball bounced in front of me, but it was an instinctive gesture,” said Iaquinta.
It was cancelled out deep into first half stoppages by a Francesco Totti spot-kick for Simone Pepe's handling offence.
“At the time I was extremely angry about the penalty, as I thought Pepe had got the ball outside the box, but watching the replays it was in.
“We felt furious to concede that goal on the stroke of half-time, but the draw is acceptable, considering we also used up so much energy at Brescia midweek.
“Are we Scudetto material? We can only work that out week after week. It is a long road ahead of us and we await this weekend's other results, but the table is very favourable.”
Iaquinta was a surprise starter in place of Alessandro Del Piero and repaid the Coach with a goal.
“I am happy here, have a great rapport with the fans and another two years on my contract, so I would like to end my career with this great club.”
