Leonardo insists “our initial objectives have not changed and I maintain my optimism” after Inter returned to winning ways.
They had been a team in crisis after consecutive defeats to Milan and Schalke, but this evening's 2-0 victory over Chievo put them temporarily back in second place.
“They were two important defeats, but our initial objectives have not changed,” said the Coach.
“We are still there in the Serie A table, while there is a second leg to play in the Champions League. This was a crucial step forward and I maintain my optimism.”
Esteban Cambiasso and Douglas Maicon scored in the second half, both taking advantage of lucky ricochets.
“Chievo played well and it was tough for us to break through after those two defeats. I try to keep fear aside and not think about it. We could've taken the lead earlier, but did well to hold on to our concentration.”
Leonardo now travels to Gelsenkirchen, where they must try to overturn a 5-2 first leg home defeat in the Champions League quarter-final.
“We are thinking of every aspect and I maintain my optimism on everything. In my view, it is possible. We'll see how we are doing on the night, but I believe.”
