Ciro Ferrara prepares for tomorrow's Under-21 match with Russia. “It's an important game, as there's no such thing as a friendly.”
The Azzurrini are still a work in progress under the new Coach and are preparing for the next European Championship qualifiers.
“This represents an important step in our journey,” warned Ferrara. “Games like this allow us to improve, remain concentrated and motivated, honing the rapport within the squad and staff.
“The more we play, the better our chances of getting in sync. We must remember that there is no such thing as a friendly at this level, especially when wearing the Italy shirt.
“In Italian club football it is especially difficult to get ready for non-competitive games, as players struggle to find the right mentality. We have to remember that we're honouring the Azzurri jersey, so must always go for the victory.
“A win also helps us with our self-belief in the work we are doing.”
