Andrea Mandorlini admitted after a fourth consecutive defeat that Verona are currently struggling for confidence.
A 1-0 reverse at Cagliari in the midweek round is the Gialloblu’s fifth defeat from the last eight weeks of the season and has seen the side drop from Europa League contention to 10th spot.
“Let’s start from the beginning. I have seen the guys as preoccupied, and coming into this from a 5-0 defeat, in the first half we were not there,” considered Mandorlini post-match.
“We did not play, we need to be more confident in the things that we did well before. This is noted and obvious. The race is long, in the end we deserved not to lose, but by then we could not change it.
“Everyone is missing the win, which could give us enthusiasm and confidence to bounce back. This does not come from heaven, we must do more to.
“Is it a psychological issue? No, it’s the field. When you come from four defeats, mentally you cannot deal with games so boldly, with a certain confidence.
“Before there was an enthusiasm that now there is not and some limitations come out of that.
“We had the legs and the desire, we are now constrained by the concern and nerves. Let’s change our mindset.
“What can I say to the fans? I’m sorry for them too, we want to return to getting results.
“Genoa at the weekend? Every game is an opportunity to start again, we will find a team that is probably better than us. We will try to make the most of the challenge.”
