Inter President Massimo Moratti has dismissed talk of Jose Mourinho making a sensational return to the club.
Inter suffered a 2-0 defeat to relegation threatened Parma on Saturday and risk losing their grip on third place in Serie A.
"It's undoubtedly a moment of crisis owed to physical and mental tiredness," Moratti said.
"We weren't at our best when we had to be. The question of Leonardo's future hasn't changed a lot. He was making a fantastic effort until the game against Milan.
"We expected the maximum then. Instead perhaps the biggest mistake was sending the players on international duty.
"We were convinced that we were still in great form. Instead we were very tired."
Asked about the Mourinho rumours, Moratti said: "Leonardo is trying to do what is necessary and for me he is doing well, but naturally it's not very easy to stop a situation of this nature.
"We hope that he gets back to doing things well even if we need a good week's rest. I have read the stories in the papers, but there is nothing with Mourinho."
