Salvatore Sirigu admits he would never have expected to have played in a World Cup match this time four years ago.
The Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper stepped in for Gigi Buffon for last Saturday’s game against England and produced a solid display in the Azzurri’s win.
“Four years ago I managed to be a part of the top 30 [provisional squad] and I was able to train with the team,” 27-year-old Sirigu told Sky.
“I would never have thought four years ago that I would now have played a full World Cup match.”
