Gigi De Canio has warned Lecce and the other relegation candidates that “nobody is safe. We're all in this battle to the end, including Chievo.”
There are seven teams crammed in a five-point radius, plus Brescia who are a little further behind in penultimate place.
“At this stage of the season, nobody can try to make calculations, including Chievo and Bologna,” said the Lecce Coach ahead of today's encounter with the Flying Donkeys.
“A while back I said nobody is safe and we're all in this battle to the end. I continue to maintain that and it is our duty to pick up as many points as possible.
“The tougher the game, the more I am convinced we will get a positive result. The problem is that when we face a supposedly weaker side on paper, we make stupid mistakes.
“I am pleased that Chievo are in no position to consider themselves safe, as that will keep my men more alert and aware of the difficulties they face.”
Lecce have 35 points, while Chievo are on 39. It is usually said in Serie A that 40 points is the safety mark, but this season that may not be enough.
