The father of Alberto Gilardino has revealed that the Fiorentina player could require a small knee operation in the summer.
"Alberto has been struggling with a knee issue since the start of the year," Gianfranco Gilardino told the Corriere Fiorentino.
"It is not spoken about very often, but it is a problem which does limit him somewhat," he continued.
"Does he need surgery? Perhaps, during the summer, he'll need it cleaned up a little. Nevertheless, he is calm and happy in Florence."
Gilardino, a 2006 World Cup winner, hasn't scored in Serie A since the 2-2 draw at Cesena back on April 3.
