Cesena will think about launching a fresh bid to sign Adrian Mutu, but only if Fiorentina give him away for nothing.
The minnows tried and failed to net the Romanian during the winter window and may launch a fresh approach at the end of the season.
"The idea to sign him in January came from President [Igor] Campedelli," noted Cesena sporting director Lorenzo Minotti.
"The Romanian was just one step away from joining us.
"When we sit down at the end of the season to discuss our market plans we will certainly evaluate going back for Mutu.
"However, we could only afford to do that if he was free of his Fiorentina contract. Cesena can only think about paying Mutu's wages and not a transfer fee for him."
It remains to be seen if Fiorentina, who claimed that they didn't want to give Mutu to a relegation rival in January given their struggles at the time, are willing to release the forward for no fee.
