Milan legend Franco Baresi can see similarities with the current Barcelona side. “We both changed the routine of football.”
The Blaugrana smashed Manchester United 3-1 in last night's Champions League Final and many are suggesting they are the greatest club side ever.
“We've got to wait for this team to grow old, otherwise nobody will push past this Barcelona,” smiled Baresi.
He was the captain of Il Grande Milan, the side managed by Arrigo Sacchi that dominated European and World football in the 1980s and early 90s.
“There have been many great sides, like Johan Cruyff's Ajax and Franz Beckenbauer's Bayern Munich, who launched a new generation of champions.
“But this Barcelona, just like my Milan, has that belief in its DNA. Regardless of the opponent, you are always the one to take the initiative and dictate the play.
“In terms of technique, organisation, passing and individuality, the two sides are parallel. We both changed the routine of football.
“Perhaps Barcelona are even more spectacular to watch than Milan, but I'm sure we would've given them trouble. Ah, how I'd have loved to play against them.”
Sacchi's Milan won two European Cups, two Intercontinetal Cups, two European Super Cups, an Italian Super Cup and Scudetto from 1988 to 1990.
Among the stars in that side were Marco Van Basten, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, Roberto Donadoni and Paolo Maldini.
