Reports suggest that Giuseppe Signori is one of 16 people arrested as part of an alleged match-fixing betting probe.
Italian news agency ANSA has named the former Italian international who is presently under house arrest, according to the stories.
The investigation, based in the northern town of Cremona, centres on games played in Serie B and in the Lega Pro.
The 16 arrests were made in 13 different cities and also included other present players and betting operators.
