Luis Enrique has been offered a two-year contract by Roma to replace Vincenzo Montella on the bench.
Reports have been gathering pace that the Spaniard will be handed the job and a deal is almost complete, according to the Corriere dello Sport.
The Rome-based paper claims that sporting director Walter Sabatini met Luis Enrique's representative in Milan yesterday to thrash out a deal.
Sabatini is understood to have offered the now former Barcelona B team tactician a 24-month agreement, with an option for 2013-14.
The former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Spanish international midfielder will net €1.5m a campaign should he accept.
His appointment could be made official by Monday.
Meanwhile, whispers are suggesting that former Lazio player Ivan De La Pena could join Luis Enrique's coaching team at the Olimpico.
