Pippo Inzaghi claims Inter striker Samuel Eto'o put him on to a knee specialist in Barcelona who he hopes will help prolong his career.
The 37-year-old suffered a serious knee injury earlier this month and there are fears that he may never play again at his age.
Interviewed on Gazzetta.it, Inzaghi said: "Many players have called me. Actually I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone again, but the phone call that struck me the most was from Eto'o.
"We got to know each other this summer in the Bahamas. He called me after the injury and advised me to go to Spain to see Professor Cugat who he gets on well with.
"Cugat is the same Professor who operated on Antonio Di Natale with great results.
"It's the worst injury of my career. I am disappointed that it came in such a great moment.
"I don't want to give myself a comeback date, but I hope to heal.
"I have to try. I owe it to everyone who loves me."
