Genoa have distanced themselves from reports that they are planning an imminent bid for Matias Silvestre of Catania.
"It's true that there was contact between us and Catania director Pietro Lo Monaco," Genoa sporting director Stefano Capozucca told Itasportpress.
"However, there is nothing to report really, especially as our defensive department is quite full at the moment.
"In all honesty, our priority at the minute is to strengthen in other areas of the team."
Catania recently admitted that they will find it tough to reject offers for Silvestre. "I think it will be very hard to keep him," Lo Monaco stated.
"I'm not being presumptuous when I say that he is the strongest centre-back in the Italian championship alongside Thiago Silva of Milan.
"As well as knowing how the defend, he also scored six goals in the past campaign – he's an important player.
"It would be sad if he was to go abroad and I hope he remains in Serie A, also because he is an Oriundo which means he could be of use to the Italian national side."
Silvestre, 26, is a versatile stopper who joined the Sicilian side in January 2008 after six years with Boca Juniors.
