Federico Marchetti is just hours away from officially becoming a Lazio player after he arrived for his medical on Tuesday.
The goalkeeper, who will complete a €5.2m switch from Cagliari, has been signed given that Fernando Muslera is likely to leave the outfit this summer.
"I'm happy to be here," the 'keeper, who hasn't played since the 2010 World Cup after a falling out with Cagliari chief Massimo Cellino, stated.
"It'd be great to play football again – it's the end of a nightmare. I have always trained with consistency and I'm happy that President Claudio Lotito and Lazio believed in me.
"I instantly had faith in the Lazio project and I fully supported the move," continued the custodian.
"It's the European Championship next summer and I'd like to be there with Italy. I want to do well for that reason too."
Marchetti was linked with a move to Sampdoria last summer, but the deal collapsed and he was subsequently frozen out of the squad for most of 2010-11.
Lorik Cana was also at the Rome clinic this morning for his medical ahead of his switch from Galatasaray.
Muslera, a target for the same Turkish club, is being allowed to leave after no agreement could be found on a contract extension. He has 12 months left to run on his previous deal.
