Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti is confident that his new club can have a fine season in 2011-12.
"This is a great moment for me," he stated to Lazio Style Radio after completing his move from Cagliari in a €5.2m deal.
"We have a great squad and President Claudio Lotito is bringing some important players in. I think we can achieve something satisfying."
Marchetti joins the outfit, as a replacement for the departing Fernando Muslera, over a year since he last played a competitive match.
The Italian international featured in goal for Italy at the World Cup, but was then frozen out of the Cagliari side after a disagreement with the club.
"It's over 370 days since I last played," he added. "It was hard at the start, but then I trained as myself on a weekly basis.
"All I said was that I would have liked to have played, for professional reasons, in the Champions League with Sampdoria.
"That cost me a lot. But I do want to thank the Cagliari fans who demonstrated their support for me."
Marchetti was also targeted by Milan this summer.
