Roma have ruled themselves out of the race to sign Erik Lamela from Argentine giants River Plate.
River President Daniel Passarella is expected to talk to a number of clubs in the peninsula over the next few days.
One of them was set to be Roma given that new sporting director Walter Sabatini has spoken of his admiration for the 19-year-old.
However, talking with Radio Mana Mana on Wednesday, Sabatini insists the Giallorossi won't sign the attacking midfielder.
"The River Plate President may be in Italy to sell Lamela, but it won't be to Roma," the official declared.
"We ended our interest in the player around a month ago."
Napoli and Milan have also been associated with the South American.
