Walter Sabatini has confirmed “there are negotiations and a very strong chance” Erik Lamela will sign for Roma.
The River Plate starlet landed in Rome on Thursday and his club hinted a deal had practically been done for €12m.
“Lamela to Roma? I don't know. There are negotiations and a very strong chance it could go through,” director of sport Sabatini told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I don't know precisely where Lamela is, as I'm not his minder. He is at the disposal of his club.”
Nonetheless, Sabatini confirmed talks are at an advanced stage for the Argentine international.
“I'd say it's 50-50 for Lamela. There is a very strong chance he will join Roma, though.
“Right now I have to go to Milan for other talks, as in football there is more than one player. There are other lads to put in place too.”
Among negotiations currently on-going are those to sell John Arne Riise to Fulham and Mirko Vucinic to Juventus.
