Walter Mazzarri reassured Napoli fans that Marek Hamsik will be central this season. “I won't talk about objectives, but we intend to amaze.”
The Partenopei were in the Scudetto race until the final few weeks and qualified for the Champions League, so enthusiasm is sky high.
“I am very fired up by working with this squad and get the clear feeling these players want to act as a unit,” said the Coach at his Press conference.
“I don't talk about objectives, you know that by now, but I can guarantee the fans we will always give our all to go as far as possible. Just like in recent years, I want the team to believe it can challenge anyone. Our intention is always to amaze.”
Mazzarri almost walked out on Napoli in May, but resolved his differences with President Aurelio De Laurentiis.
“We spoke face to face with great clarity. Since that meeting, our rapport has only become stronger. We share the same views on everything and I got the answers I was looking for. There's a solid foundation to reach the world's top clubs.
“I am happy with the transfer strategy and we got the right reinforcements quickly. This side already has its own soul and now the new arrivals will fit into the team spirit.
“Last season we achieved exceptional things, but the mentality must remain the same, as it's another year of growth and maturation.
“I said last term it was the strongest group of players I had ever worked with, and in fact we got the highest Serie A finish of my career. This season I have an even more competitive squad.”
Among the new arrivals are Gokhan Inler from Udinese and Bologna defender Miguel Angel Britos.
“I wanted Britos, as I had been following his progress for a long time. Inler is the player who probably did better than any other in recent years at Udinese.
“I outlined the type of players I needed for a very difficult season and it's important they got here before pre-season training, as they have to settle into Napoli's tactics and mentality.
“Anyone who comes to Napoli has to believe they are going into the best season of their careers. Motivation is crucial to me and I want to see the humility of those coming into a side that qualified for the Champions League.”
There were fears of top stars leaving the San Paolo, including Hamsik, who was courted by Milan, Inter and Manchester City.
“I spoke to Hamsik and he knows the way I think. He'll give his all and is very motivated. He's happy to stay with Napoli.”
