Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino has invited Milan to make an offer for Riccardo Montolivo. “They never asked me for him.”
The captain has repeatedly rejected a contract extension and will be a free agent next summer, so is under pressure to make a decision on his future.
“It is possible Milan are chasing Riccardo, but they have never asked me for him. Clearly I've been in the market for years and know how things work,” commented Fiorentina director of sport Corvino.
“We'll see how it pans out, but the only players at Fiorentina must be those who want to be here.
“I spoke to his agent and realised there is absolutely no chance of re-opening negotiations. We helped him mature and made him the captain, so it's understandable that the club patrons feel betrayed.”
Meanwhile, the Viola have been linked with a bid for Liverpool's Alberto Aquilani.
“I don't name names until the negotiations are concluded.”
