Fiorentina have stripped Riccardo Montolivo of the club captaincy after he refused to sign a new contract.
The Italian international is only tied to the Viola until June 2012 and he's made it clear that he won't extend his agreement.
Despite the club's best efforts in trying to convince him to commit, the former Atalanta player has rejected numerous offers.
Montolivo, 26, was handed the club's armband in June 2008.
According to reports, the Viola squad backed the player to remain as captain, but the club seemingly have other ideas.
Veteran defender Alessandro Gamberini is now expected to lead the side out during the 2011-12 campaign.
It's unclear whether Montolivo will stay in Florence and see out his contract given the limited interest in his services.
He's been linked with Inter, Juventus and Milan over the last 12 months, but there doesn't seem to have been any concrete interest from any three of the clubs.
