Sebastien Frey is closer than ever to joining Genoa now that rival Emiliano Viviano is out for six months.
Genoa are looking for a new goalkeeper after sending Eduardo on loan to Benfica.
Viviano had been the main candidate after Inter won their blind auction with Bologna to own the player outright.
However, Viviano snapped the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during training on Saturday and will require surgery.
It’s believed the Italy shot-stopper could be out of action for around six months.
With that in mind, Genoa must turn to Fiorentina outcast Frey to fill the gap in their squad.
The Viola have made it clear they do not require Frey this season, as Artur Boruc or Neto will be the first choice pick.
