Genoa will increase their efforts to sign Sebastien Frey of Fiorentina in order to solve their goalkeeping problem.
The Marassi outfit have allowed Eduardo to join Benfica after his problematic debut campaign in Italy last term.
They were expected to replace the Portugal international with the Inter-owned Emiliano Viviano.
However, the latter has now picked up a serious injury and will be sidelined for around six months.
Genoa are now thus set to concentrate on Frey who has been told that he has no future at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Although Frey would seemingly accept Genoa as a destination, there is a problem to overcome in terms of his wages.
The 31-year-old currently earns €2m a season in Florence, a figure which is a little steep for the Rossoblu.
Talks could take place on Tuesday.
