Aurelio De Laurentiis “never doubted Marek Hamsik wanted Napoli, but if Ezequiel Lavezzi leaves, we'll buy someone stronger.”
The President was pleased to hear Hamsik reiterate his love for the club despite a summer of links with rivals Milan.
“See that? Others wanted to sow the seeds of poison in our midst, but I never doubted Hamsik wanted Napoli.
“I knew he wanted to win the Champions League with us. I don't make promises I can't follow through with.”
However, De Laurentiis sent a warning to Lavezzi, whose €32m buy-out clause could be activated by Manchester City.
“Lavezzi will return from international duty on August 4 and we welcome him with open arms,” continued the President on Radio Marte.
“If he wants to stay, then we will be very happy, otherwise we'll sign someone even stronger than he is.
“The fans and media may want more signings every day, but Coach Walter Mazzarri has made it clear he wants no more than 22 players in his squad. Journalists stir up trouble and I won't play their game.”
