Gian Piero Gasperini admits Inter's 2011-12 season will have a difficult start and “spectacular fireworks” to end against Milan and Lazio.
The Nerazzurri dive back into the Scudetto race with the fixtures drawn up in Milan this evening.
“It's a difficult start, but we are hungry and have time to prepare,” the Coach told Inter Channel.
“After the opener at home to Lecce, who are never an easy opponent, we'll immediately be facing the best with a trip to Palermo, then welcoming Roma.”
There is also Inter-Napoli in Week 6 and Inter-Juventus in Week 10, but the real issue could be the end of the season. The Nerazzurri's last two games will be the Milan derby and Lazio-Inter.
“It's going to be a spectacular end to the campaign, a very English-style calendar with head-to-head battles. There are going to be some spectacular fireworks.”
They will face Milan long before then, as both sides meet in Beijing for the Italian Super Cup on August 6.
“It's a match we are obviously all looking forward to, but I wouldn't say it's decisive for our season, as it comes so early into the year. Having said that, we're very eager to make our mark in that game.”
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano underwent surgery today to rebuild the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He'll be out for 5-7 months.
“We're all very disappointed for him, as it's an incredible injury to get during a training session. We will all stand by him and help his recovery process,” concluded Gasperini.
