The agent of Alex Manninger has been in talks with Sampdoria regarding a move from Juventus.
Doria need a new 'keeper following their relegation from Serie A last season and the veteran Austrian is of interest.
"We have spoken to Sampdoria in the last few days," representative Franco Granello told Primocanale Sport.
"The situation is at a standstill right now though. I'm waiting for the player to get back from Juventus' tour of America and we'll meet up at the start of next week."
Sampdoria were defended by Gianluca Curci last season, but he returned to parent club Roma over the summer.
"We have clear ideas about our goalkeeper," Samp sporting director Pasquale Sensibile noted. "It's a delicate role to fill, but one that we will do by the end of next week.
"Manninger? That path is alive, but we'd prefer to take some extra time in order to make the right move."
Manninger will be Juventus' third-choice in Turin behind Gigi Buffon and Marco Storari should they all remain at the club.
