Ezequiel Lavezzi's agent insists the fine for his late night out before a Serie A game was “blown out of proportion.”
This week Napoli announced they had performed their own investigation into the incident on Friday night and fined several players for unprofessional conduct.
“There was no night on the tiles. He just went out to dinner with some of his teammates,” explained Lavezzi's agent Alejandro Mazzoni.
“The show they went to lasted longer than expected, so they didn't leave until after midnight.
“In any case, he made a mistake and is ready to pay the fine. He also apologised to Coach Walter Mazzarri and the squad.
“However, I still say it was blown out of all proportion. He certainly didn't go round drinking champagne until the early hours.”
Napoli also reiterated that “nobody was drunk,” but staying out past midnight on Friday evening before Sunday afternoon's trip to Udinese was considered unprofessional.
The Partenopei went on to lose the match 3-1.
