Sampdoria captain Angelo Palombo has described Antonio Cassano as irreplaceable in the wake of his side's 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League.
Cassano has been frozen out of the first team since the end of October after falling out with Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone.
Sampdoria have asked that his contract be rescinded and a decision is due regarding that matter tomorrow, although Cassano's lawyers have requested that it be postponed.
"Antonio is irreplaceable," Palombo said. "But he is especially so on a numerical level because we need players.
"I believe that it's necessary for the club to intervene when the January transfer window opens," he concluded.
