Serie A Week 22 - 31/1/10 (19.45 UK)
Juventus 1-1 Lazio
Del Piero pen 70 (J), Mauri 78 (L)
Stadio Olimpico

A very soft Alessandro Del Piero penalty was wiped out by Stefano Mauri, as Juventus draw with Lazio on Alberto Zaccheroni's debut.

This was almost a battle to see which team was less worse off. The Bianconeri made their debut under Zac after Ciro Ferrara was fired on Friday and, as he only had two training sessions with the team, did not make many changes. Some were forced, as Gigi Buffon and Fabio Grosso were suspended, while Hasan Salihamidzic, David Trezeguet, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Mauro Camoranesi, Claudio Marchisio and Christian Poulsen were injured.

Lazio dropped Tommaso Rocchi, Sebastiano Siviglia and Stefan Lichtsteiner, so Aleksandar Kolarov returned to a defensive role. Julio Cruz hoped to add to the 10 career goals he had already put past Juventus.

The atmosphere in Turin was tense, as fans staged a 'silent' protest at nine defeats in the last 12 official games. Many were also unhappy at the choice of ex-Torino, Lazio, Milan and Inter boss Zaccheroni.

Diego fired straight at Nando Muslera after Amauri knocked it down for Del Piero. Antonio Candreva's strike was charged down and Del Piero fired over from a tight angle.

Muslera spilled a sudden Diego snapshot from 20 metres that bounced right in front of him, but managed to scramble it out for a corner before Sissoko could pounce.

Sissoko and Del Piero performed backheels in the build-up, but Diego was muscled off the ball in the box as he was preparing to pull the trigger. The former Liverpool midfielder went for goal himself with an effort charged down.

Lazio had few real first half opportunities, as even their free kicks were off target with the usually reliable Kolarov.

A Diego free kick was deflected and Giorgio Chiellini just failed to get his foot to redirect it from six yards.

Moments later Alex Manninger needed his first genuine save, at full stretch to fingertip a Stefano Mauri daisy-cutter round the post.

On the stroke of half-time a corner came out to the D for Candreva to drill over the bar, but Juve did not avoid some jeers as they left the field.

Straight after the restart Sissoko was booked for bringing down Kolarov and risked a second card with his reaction. He'll be suspended for the next game.

Candreva unleashed a rocket from 25 metres that Muslera flew to palm round the near post as it dipped.

Juve were increasingly dangerous from distance and on 54 minutes Diego's strike cracked the outside of the upright.

Del Piero had penalty appeals when he fell under Kolarov's challenge, but it appears the Juventus man ran into his opponent when both were watching the ball.

Muslera smothered a Del Piero shot at the near post and Juventus started to pin Lazio back into their own half. A siege set in with shots raining in from all angles and Sissoko couldn't get enough accuracy to his header from Paolo De Ceglie's cross.

Yet the visitors also threatened when Baronio's free kick was not cleared effectively.

The referee pointed to the spot when Del Piero fell under Mobido Diakite's challenge after Amauri had knocked down the ball. Replays suggest contact was minimal, though he did rest his hand on the Juventus captain's shoulder as he was lining up the shot. It was a soft penalty and Del Piero took it himself, sending Muslera the wrong way.

Ballardini threw on Rocchi for Ousmane Dabo and a trident attack. With his first touch Rocchi went close to an equaliser, but was cut off in the box by Chiellini's tackle. On the counter from the same move Diego's shot was charged down.

Felipe Melo limped off injured, so Martin Caceres made his comeback from a muscular problem.

Lazio equalised on 78 minutes with a goal out of nowhere. Baronio's free kick was cleared as far as Zarate, who crossed back in for Mauri at full stretch from seven yards. The Biancocelesti midfielder got in front of his marker to make the crucial contact.

In a bizarre incident, Mauri was left with a cut to his head while celebrating, as Baronio jumped on his back and accidentally knocked him into Rocchi. The goalscorer was not able to continue and needed a large bandage on his head.

Muslera caught Cannavaro's volley in stoppages and a Kolarov free kick crashed against the defensive wall.
